Message from the Creator

“I’m Cath Stonehouse, a printmaker and illustrator. My designs express the gentleness and joy of nature. I love those small, beautiful moments and things that make ordinary days feel special.

This blanket is inspired by the delight of finding wild strawberries, twinkling under their dark leaves, sweet and delicious, while out walking in the hills near my home.

The Spain small cities near where I live now are an Art Nouveau dream – what Catalans call Modernism – with beautiful building facades and colourful tiles depicting flowing symmetrical designs of fruit and flowers. These lovely, balanced patterns inspired the playful visual rhythms of my strawberry fields design.

I wanted the red of the strawberries to be delicious, like that luscious, sweet red that seems to express the feeling of summer itself. I wanted to weave a blanket that would be like carrying your own personal strawberry patch wherever life takes you – ready to wrap you in warmth or spread out whenever you need a burst of joyful colour.”

Australian printmaker Cath Stonehouse creates from the Northern Spanish village where she lives, blending bold block printing with delicate hand-drawn details. Inspired by Mediterranean light and the organic curves of local Art Nouveau architecture, she finds endless delight in nature’s colours and forms, weaving joy and tenderness into her designs. In the wild, fantastical canvases of Hieronymus Bosch, the strawberry is a flash of sensuous, erotic delight. In Shakespeare’s world, strawberries are often associated with purity, virginity, love, loyalty and sexuality. Centuries later, Lucian Freud saw in its flesh the sweet, fleeting pleasures of life, making an artwork of delicious strawberries a perfect and intimate gift for a dear friend. For Marc Chagall, it was a taste of his dreamy, surreal visions of childhood. And perhaps most movingly, as their health began to fail, both Édouard Manet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir found comfort in painting strawberries, their joyful, vibrant red a defiant splash of cheer against the fading light.

This rich, complex tapestry of meaning is the inheritance of ‘Berry Bliss’. Cath Stonehouse skillfully converses with this richness, translating it into a tactile everyday object of comfort and contemporary grace. Through the beautiful symmetrical aesthetic of block printing, she captures that luscious, sweet red that holds the very taste of a perfect summer’s day.

In addition, it can help prevent eczema in children. Compared with other chemical fiber materials, organic cotton is more environmentally friendly and the degradation time is relatively short. In general, organic cotton is more durable than regular cotton. Because its strands are stronger, it can last longer and be washed and worn more often.

100% Organic cotton is cotton that is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and other synthetic substances. The seeds were never genetically engineered.
